Current Calls for Submission

The Book of Scorpio

Reopened to Submissions

Brighten Press will publish a hardcover, paperback, and e-book collection of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction about the astrological sign Scorpio, tentatively titled The Book of Scorpio. Publication is tentatively scheduled for Summer 2021.

Scorpio Anthology

We received excellent submissions for the first call for writing, but not enough. So we're reopening the forthcoming Scorpio anthology to submissions.

The work may be about any facet of the zodiac sign itself (although we will not need basic, familiar descriptions), Scorpio natives, those affected by Scorpios, or some other aspect that relates to scorpionic existence. You may submit work in any genre or style, and the tone may be as light and polite or as stygian and sexual as necessary, although we will not consider anything racist, sexist, or LGBT-phobic. We are particularly seeking writing that is honest and intense. Authors need not be Scorpios, but it doesn’t hurt.

Please submit no more than three pieces of your original, Scorpio-themed writing to:

submissions@brightenpress.com

Each piece must be no longer than 10,000 words, and it may be difficult to find space for anything longer than 7,000 words. Shorter works have a greater chance of acceptance. The total word count of the maximum three submissions should not be greater than 15,000 words.

Previously published work is accepted as long as you hold the publication rights, and a credits page will be included in the anthology.

Attach your submissions in a single .doc, .docx, .pdf, or .txt file saved under your last name. In the email subject line, please include “Scorpio” also followed by your last name.

At the end of your cover letter in the body of the email, please include a short biography about yourself in 3rd person, and mention your own astrological sun sign. You may include links to your publications, websites, and social media.

You retain full copyright of your work. By submitting to Brighten Press, you are granting us a non-exclusive right to publish your submission with full credit and a short bio in the upcoming anthology, and to use snippets of your work and your name in marketing, advertising, and sales materials for the book. Submission in no way guarantees publication, and inclusion is at the sole discretion of Brighten Press. Agreements requiring signature will be sent out to those writers selected for inclusion. Payment will be a paperback copy of the published anthology, with the opportunity to buy additional copies near cost.

The deadline is January 15, 2020 for submissions for the Scorpio anthology.

Thank you, and we look forward to reading your work.
